But the question is how Anita handles this mentally. She is truly special and I look forward to finding out how. Jean-Claude isn't attracted to her *only* for her beauty. Anita is very powerful and we may be seeing very soon in future books just how powerful she is. You're in for plenty of action in this one as well as some interesting revelations. Her fellow colleague, Edward, wants to do away with BOTH of Anita's love interests which only complicates matters further. The beautiful and dangerous vampire shows his jealous streak as he is after Anita's affections. All of this werewolf business isn't really conducive to a happy Jean-Claude. There's tension between him and Richard since they are both dominant, which naturally alludes to them likely duking it out to decide on a leader once and for all. One of them includes solving a missing persons case assigned by the local werewolf pack alpha, Marcus. To keep the money rolling in, she decides to take on a few odd jobs. Anita Blake, the supernatural "jack of all trades" is experiencing a bit of a slow period with her necromancer business.

5/24/2023 0 Comments Grasses by Stephen HarrisProviding an impressive exploration of the profound impact these plants have on our survival and our pleasure, this well-illustrated book is a must have for gardeners, foodies, and environmentalists. Harris describes this symbiotic connection against the background of climate change, contending that humans must find a way to balance their need for grass as food, as living space, and potentially even as fuel. In this book, Stephen Harris explains the history of our relationship with these vital plants from the end of the last Ice Age to the present day.Ĭombining biology, sociology, and cultural history, Grasses explores how these staple crops bear the mark of human influence more visibly than any other plant and how we, in turn, are motivated to protect green space such as public parks. If the dyslexia suffered by the Swansea bass. Indeed, grasses include four species-wheat, rice, maize, and sugar-that provide sixty percent of human calorie intake, and we become more and more dependent on these as the world's population increases. Stephen Harris claims flunking his O-levels and narrowly missing being caught up in the 9/11 attacks in New York makes him the worlds luckiest man. Most people have memories of playing on well-manicured lawns or running across the flat green surface of a local park, but we often don't think of grasses as something we consume. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Shameful flight by stanley wolpertVirtually everyone involved advised Mountbatten that to partition those provinces was a calamitous mistake that would unleash uncontrollable violence. The viceroy's worst blunder was the impetuous drawing of new border lines through the middle of Punjab and Bengal. Wolpert places the blame for the catastrophe largely on Mountbatten, the flamboyant cousin of the king, who rushed the process of nationhood along at an absurd pace. Stanley Wolpert, a leading authority on Indian history, paints memorable portraits of all the key participants, including Gandhi, Churchill, Attlee, Nehru, and Jinnah, with special focus on British viceroy, Lord Louis Mountbatten. Ranging from the fall of Singapore in 1942 to the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in 1948, Shameful Flight provides a vivid behind-the-scenes look at Britain's decision to divest itself from the crown jewel of its empire. From : "Britain's precipitous and ill-planned disengagement from India in 1947-condemned as a "shameful flight" by Winston Churchill-had a truly catastrophic effect on South Asia, leaving hundreds of thousands of people dead in its wake and creating a legacy of chaos, hatred, and war that has lasted over half a century. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Henri pirenne booksPirenne’s focus on the convergence of Islamic and European cultures offers all readers, regardless of their familiarity with medieval history, a distinctive and illuminating approach to those fascinating times. In the course of underpinning this hypothesis, he provides the reader with concise yet symptomatically detailed pictures of Europe before Islam, during Islamic expansion, and during its aftermath in the early Middle Ages. Here Pirenne expounds upon the question that preoccupied him throughout his academic career: how and when did the transition from the ancient to the medieval world occur? Rather than settling on the standard answer among most historians of his time-that the pivotal moment of this transition was the barbarian invasion of Rome-Pirenne pushed the paradigm shift forward to the spread of Islam in the seventh century. Not the least of these is the present volume, left unfinished at the time of his death but meticulously edited and completed by his son, Jacques. As Professor of History at the University of Ghent from 1886 until 1930 (with a brief hiatus during Germany’s invasion of Belgium during World War I), Pirenne contributed many works to the study of medieval Europe. Mohammed and Charlemagne, the last book penned by Belgian historian Henri Pirenne before his death in 1935, is in many ways the culmination of his lifelong study of medieval history. 5/24/2023 0 Comments The Last Question by Isaac AsimovAC continues to exist in hyperspace, pondering the question that had first been asked ten trillion years earlier. Mankind eventually merges with AC, and the universe comes to an end. In each time period, the question is put forth again of whether there is a way to reverse entropy, with each AC responding "THERE IS AS YET INSUFFICIENT DATA FOR A MEANINGFUL ANSWER". The story skips ahead to several successive time periods in the far future, each with humanity having made tremendous advancements under the guidance of a supercomputer descended from the original Multivac (first Microvac/Planetary AC, then Galactic AC, then Universal AC, then Cosmic AC). On a $5 bet, one of the technicians poses the question to Multivac: "How can the net amount of entropy of the universe be massively decreased?" Multivac responds with "INSUFFICIENT DATA FOR MEANINGFUL ANSWER". A pair of technicians, drunk from celebrating, discuss the theoretical future of humanity and the ultimate heat-death of the universe due to entropy. The story begins in 2061, with the activation of the new global supercomputer, Multivac. It is about a question that is presented to a series of supercomputers over a long period of time. "The Last Question" is a science fiction short story by Isaac Asimov, published in 1956. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Anime a history jonathan clementsDrawing on the testimonies of industry professionals, a myriad of Japanese-language documents, memoirs and books, Anime: A History illuminates the anime business from the inside, investigating its innovators, its unsung heroes and its controversies. To be fair, onscreen text at the start clarifies that the film is not based on the Gospels, but on the Nikos Kazantzakis book with which it shares a title. There is a genuine urge here to understand at least one facet of Jesus Christ, but the inherent stodginess of Biblical adaptations (to say nothing of Harvey Keitel’s Brooklyn accent and red dye job) ultimately manages to prevail. It’s not for a lack of earnestness, however. Martin Scorsese takes on a perennial cinematic challenge – bringing the Bible to the big screen – and fumbles like so many before him. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Wendy higgins sweet seriesIn the light of her affections, Kaidan must undergo his toughest test of all, a battle of the heart.
