(And this is a review of Evermore, but I have to say, she tries a British accent in the second book and It. I have no idea why she wouldn’t, but it could only have helped. She reads in a pleasant, engaging manner that draws you in, but she doesn’t use various pitches to identify different characters, doesn’t make her voice husky for Haven or even lower her voice when the males speak, which seriously threw me off, because it all sounded like one character, one speaker, and I never got used to it. I hope she’s gotten better with practice. Twilight knock-off, pathetic characters, ridiculous paranormal elements ![]() ![]() ![]() This tale could (and does) occur in far too many families - perhaps it may save some. Apart from the background of the mother who, in this book, is extremely literate and her 'tone', initially, somewhat condescending, the reader soon realizes that this 'tone' is perhaps more defensive than otherwise. The problems appears to be ones which the family can not solve because they are not so serious that they could be attributed to a major defect in the son. In a series of letters to her husband, the description of life with her family is laid bare - leading the reader through a series of events which collectively point to disaster. The exploration of family dynamics is brilliant and resonates The story explores the frustrations of having a reasonably bright but completely puzzling child - one with enough differences to cause concern - but the perception is not shared by his father, which naturally leads the mother to question her own observations. The author weaves a tapestry so fine that the reader becomes more an observer who can't help identifying with the protagonist or questioning her actions, lack of action, and reactions. ![]() ![]() Probably one of the most cleverly-written books I have ever read. ![]() 5/22/2023 0 Comments Can't Shake You by Molly McLain![]() ![]() Josh has two hard and fast rules: never mix business with pleasure and don’t look twice at women his friends have dated, much less loved.
